My twin kids, Inigo and Scout, were born early and spent the first 2 months of their lives in hospital. Whilst sitting there with them I noticed the home made blankets given to the intensive care unit by local knitters. A simple act of kindness that meant so much to the families going through very tough times. The NHS had done an amazing job with our children and I wanted to do something to help other children less fortunate than our own.
A year later we launched Inigo Scout, a luxury textile business producing limited edition ‘blanket art’ woven on state-of-the-art jacquard looms. For every Inigo Scout blanket sold ten children in need of warmth are given blankets of their own. We weave our blankets in Scotland on the same jacquard looms used by Burberry and Hermes. We work in partnership with registered charity, Knit For Peace. And we have sold all over the world, from New York to Japan, Germany and London.
Inigo Scout achieves brilliant coverage in the leading lifestyle press, is shown at the UK’s top art fairs and galleries and to this day has given almost £8,000 to our project in the CapeFlats, South Africa. Here, we teach local men and women how to knit and pay them to knit blankets for the children in their community who are otherwise cold at night. This has been a personal passionate project that has taught me a lot about the importnace of purpose, the power of a story and the mechanics of social enterprise.
